CHESS Homeless have a once in a lifetime opportunity to increase bedspaces to single homeless adults at one of our existing sites, currently called ‘Turning Point’. We will be increasing the accommodation from 9 to 24 units offering a significantly improved style and set up of accommodation.
On the right is a picture of the drawing for the new development, which will see 24 new modular self-contained homes built providing a private and self-contained place to live, whilst addressing the issues that saw them become homeless, with the help of trained support and life skills staff available on site.
The choice for modular housing is due to the short timescales in which we have to deliver this project through the ‘Single Homeless Accommodation Programme’ (SHAP) funding. It also means we are more likely to have the project operational by March 2025 once the build begins.
These units are fully equipped and easily adaptable to ensure that people with health conditions or disabilities can live as independently as possible. This will also help them to regain control of their lives for when they are ready to move on and live independently.

The pods will be changed from the existing colour of black and yellow to blue as shown in image below.  The front of the building will have a parking area and be landscaped providing a pleasant outdoor area for residents with planting of additional trees.

The existing communal area and office space will remain but eventually be improved.
