Schools

CHESS is always looking to make new connections in our local community. This is because we believe that building relationships is an important way to raise awareness of homelessness, as well as giving people a fantastic chance to get involved in fun fundraising activities.

We enjoy visiting schools, colleges and universities to talk about homelessness and how we support vulnerable individuals and can prepare a presentation based on your requirements.  We also offer a series of assemblies and resources to cover RE & Citizenship national curriculum objectives and guidelines for teaching spiritual, moral, social and cultural development as outlined in the Essex agreed syllabus.

In the current climate we understand that schools are not able to host external visitors for the purposes of Assemblies and presentations. We are working to develop a virtual presentation containing everything you need to deliver a fun and informative CHESS assembly on homelessness. This will be available to download on the website very soon.

If you are interested in having a member of the CHESS team come and visit your school in 2021, then please email us fundraising@chesshomeless.org or telephone 01245 281104.

Our very own mascot, Chessney Bear is asking for the support of schools and clubs to take part in the Teddy Bear Sleep Out.

The Teddy Bear Sleep Out may take any form you like from sleeping the bears on the school field, in the playground or tents in your school hall. Or if you are a club i.e Cubs/Browines you might like to get a group of you together and sleep out yourselves.

Once you have registered you will be able to download your very own event pack including, “This Bear Belongs To Labels”, Worksheets, Letters and Sponsor Forms.

If you sign up your school before October half term, your school are welcome to book a visit from our very own mascot Chessney Bear (subject to availability).

The school who raises the most amount of money from their Teddy Bear Sleep Out will receive a framed certificate for taking part and raising the most amount of money along with a trophy inscribed with your school name to be in possession of for the following year.
