Sleep Out 2018 – A night under the stars!

What's involved

Sleeping out for the night might be fun, but for many people this is every night reality! CHESS Homeless works to relieve homelessness and hardship amongst single adults in Chelmsford and Essex through the provision of support services and temporary accommodation.

CHESS provides a 9 bedroom night shelter along with shared move on accommodation. Here we provide a safe place to stay along with a hot meal, drinks, hygiene/laundry facilities, support workers and a counsellor. With our shared housing we can support up to 32 individuals at any one time.

We aim to support individuals from the moment they step through the door into our night shelter until they move on into their own independent accommodation.

During the Winter months we run our Winter project, providing the many rough sleepers with food, drinks, sleeping bags and a bed for the night, normally in one of the local church halls.

Every year CHESS hosts its own Sleep Out in the grounds of Chelmsford Cathedral and last year’s participants raised over £20,000 for us.

This year we would like to raise even more and make it even bigger. Therefore, why not join us and experience what it is like to sleep rough for a night.

Anyone can take part, however people under 18 cannot take part individually. A responsible adult must complete the registration for minors either on line or on the night and accompany them for the sleep out.

By getting involved, you will help CHESS to support more people on a journey towards moving away from homelessness, from getting off the streets, to living in a new home and learning new skills and securing employment. The money you raise will help vulnerable local people to live independently and help CHESS reach their aims in continuing to change lives.

How to take part

Where:   Chelmsford Cathedral

If you can not make our sleep out then why not:
Host your own Sleep Out
Families, Work Places, Youth Groups and Clubs

If you can’t attend our Sleep Out on the 30th November, then why not host your own during November.

We are calling on the good people of Essex to take part. It’s open to anyone providing you have permission; brownies, cubs, scouts, guides, youth groups, schools, colleges and families. (those under the age of 18 must ensure an adult/carer is with you).

You can choose to brave the elements with just a sleeping bag and card board box or get the tent out and camp in the garden with friends and family. Either way, make a night of it and help raise valuable funds for local homeless people as you sleep!

If you are a school or club then why not get in touch and invite us along to an assembly, before taking part in your event

Here at CHESS Homeless we believe that everyone should have a roof over their head and a place they can call home. No one should be left out sleeping on the streets.

We provide a programme of change to help single homeless adults get back on their feet to live independently and where possible back into education or employment.

The money you raise through your Sleep Out will go towards helping single homeless adults from Chelmsford and Essex.
