CHESS relies on the support of volunteers who play a vital role in the running of the charity. In 2018, 88 volunteers gave on average 72 hours each per year. Without this valued support over the past 24 years, we could not have impacted the local community in the way that we have. We hope to continue this in the future and would love you to partner with us on that journey.

CHESS was originally set up by Churches Together in Chelmsford (CTIC) and many of the churches in Chelmsford and the surrounding area have generously supported CHESS ever since. In fact, many of our trustees and volunteers are drawn from their congregations.
We have two chaplains that regularly visit the night shelter who offer prayers and support to residents if they wish. Several churches provide support directly to those who are homeless and others provide their buildings for us to use.Find out more
Schools and Education
CHESS is always looking to make new connections in our local community. This is because we believe that building relationships is an important way to raise awareness of homelessness, as well as giving people a fantastic chance to get involved in fun fundraising activities.
CHESS enjoys visiting schools, colleges and universities to talk about homelessness and how we support individuals who are vulnerable and homeless.
If you are interested in having a member of the CHESS team (or even our very own Mascot CHESSNEY Bear) come and visit your school then please email us firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 01245 281104.Find out more
